Meet Tony Bear

Tony Bear is the heart and soul of the New Mexico Crusaders for Justice, a symbol born from unimaginable loss and carried forward with love, purpose, and an unshakeable will to protect others. Each bear is dressed in the clothing of a child gone too soon, traveling everywhere their family goes, to courtrooms, to vigils, to the streets where justice is still being fought for.

As our beloved mascot, Tony Bear is a recognizable symbol of support for families who refused to be silenced, and of a community that shows up for every missing child, every grieving mother, every family still waiting for answers. Every child deserves to be safe, every life deserves to be valued, and every family deserves justice.

Our Founders' Story

Driven by passion and purpose, our founders dedicated their lives to making a difference in the lives of families affected by violent crime.

The New Mexico Crusaders for Justice was born from a desire to create real change—to ensure that every family gets the justice and support they deserve. Through tireless advocacy, education, and community engagement, we're building a New Mexico where children are safe and families are never forgotten.

What Families Say

“The NM Crusaders were introduced to us through the APD Homicide Dept. The founders Sally and Alicia are a strong group of women. They are compassionate, loving and full of knowledge. They turned their hurt into purpose providing support to other victims’ families. They even had an open invitation allowing us to sit in on their court hearing sessions to educate us so that we will know what to expect.”

“After my brother was taken from us, my mom and I were overwhelmed by uncertainty and questions about what came next. The Crusaders stepped in during that difficult time. They helped guide us through the "what now" moments and offered something just as important - a place of comfort, understanding, and shared grief where we knew we weren't alone.”

“When I lost my son on September 17,2024, it changed me forever. A piece of me died that day I felt so alone. Then Sally from The NM Crusaders for Justice reached out to me. I felt support that I hadn't had; to be a part of this group is heartbreaking but having the support and love from others who know this kind of pain helps. I am truly grateful to them all.”

“When my nephew Joshua was murdered, a colleague connected me with the NM Crusaders for Justice. Our family is grateful to the group for all the love and support we received as we navigated our Justice journey. We appreciated the support that we now try to participate and volunteer to be to other families what the members of the Crusaders were to us.”

“This support group, “a group nobody chooses to be a part of willingly…” was there when my world was shattered and I didn’t know where to turn. They helped me through the nightmare process, guided me where to go and who to speak to when needed. This is a community of brokenhearted families who understand the injustice in our system.”

“I would like to take this opportunity and share just how special this group is to me. Our son Joseph was killed November 13th, 2021. And just a couple of days later I received a call from Sally, she told me who she was, and she offered information that she knew would be helpful for me and my family. It’s been a long, tough journey for us, we have formed some unbreakable bonds. I hold several of these ladies close to my heart. Even through their own battles they find the time to help families and provide love and support daily. I am forever grateful and although it sucks to be on this journey I feel honored to be part of such an incredible movement. New Mexico Crusaders for Justice for life. Together we can and will make a difference!!! Thank you Sally, Alicia, Melissa and anyone that helps, your blood, sweat and tears are seen!!!”

“The support group welcomed me with open arms when I walked in not knowing anyone. I was able to say whatever I was feeling whether I was crying or extremely angry, they all understood. I have actually learned a lot by going to the group about the whole process, some have gone through the entire process of the court system and some of us have not, so hearing all the stories from other families have helped me to understand what to expect. I also like when they have guest speakers (police Lieutenant, Sergeants) to help us understand the process and hear our complaints about the process. This group has been invaluable to me, and I have met some wonderful ladies there. Thank you NM Crusaders, keep doing what you’re doing. ❤️🤍”
